A Lesson from the First Time I Took Heroin

Share

It was a Friday night in 1981. I was with nine of my mates in Jackie’s bedroom. She lived on a council estate in Salford. We were listening to Bob Marley and the Wailers and smoking weed. We were getting ready to go up to town on a night out. The door opened and one of the lads walked in. ‘Hey guys, I’ve got some “brown” (heroin). Across the board, Kuchenbecker says, coaches picked psychological factors over physical factors when asked what makes for a successful young athlete.

The Scars of Life

In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realising that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.
